What is the AI Generated badge?
The AI Generated badge is a free image you add to a website, blog post, portfolio or project README to say AI made the work from a brief. A person asked for it, and may have picked between versions, checked the result and fixed small things, but didn't shape it much. What was published is roughly what the AI produced. The test is whether you shaped the work or accepted it. If you directed it over rounds of feedback until it was what you wanted, that's AI Assisted instead. The badge lets you publish AI-made work openly and let people decide for themselves, instead of finding out later and feeling misled. It's one of three free AI disclosure badges from AI Honesty Badge, alongside No AI and AI Assisted. You add it with a short HTML or Markdown snippet that links back to aihonestybadge.com. As with all three badges, nothing is verified. It works because being upfront builds trust.
When to use the AI Generated badge
- You gave AI a brief and published roughly what came back.
- Your part was asking, picking between versions, checking and light fixes.
- You want readers to know before they find out another way.
Not quite right? If you directed the work and shaped it over rounds of feedback, it's AI Assisted, even when AI produced most of the words, images or code.

Tricky cases
- “I used AI to translate my writing”
- AI Assisted. The ideas and the original words are yours, and AI changed the language.
- “AI made the header image, but I wrote every word”
- AI Assisted for the post as a whole. If the distinction matters to your readers, say which part AI made.
- “A grammar tool rewrote some of my sentences”
- Fixing spelling and grammar is still No AI. Rewriting sentences for you makes it AI Assisted.
- “An AI coding assistant wrote my project”
- AI Assisted if you decided what to build, directed it and reviewed the result, even if AI wrote all the code. AI Generated if you described what you wanted and shipped what it built.
- “I heavily edited an AI-generated image”
- AI Assisted. You shaped it. If you'd published the first result as it came, that would be AI Generated.
- “I only used prompts and never edited it by hand”
- Prompts count. If you rejected versions, redirected and decided what stayed, you led the work, so it's AI Assisted. One prompt and publish is AI Generated.
- “AI wrote the first draft and I reworked it”
- AI Assisted, if the ideas are yours and you shaped it until it says what you mean.

A launcher and mod manager for Kitten Space Agency. Its README spells out what AI built and what the owner decided.
- Toni Schmitt
Small Linux and developer tools, from a KDE notification archive to a Claude Code status line. Every one carries the same line: "This project was completely generated by LLMs."
