What is the AI Assisted badge?
The AI Assisted badge is a free image you add to a website, blog post, portfolio or project README to say a person led the work and AI helped. What decides it is who's in charge. A person chooses what the work is, directs it, shapes it over rounds of feedback and stands behind the result. AI may have written the first draft, made the images or produced most of the code. If you rejected, redirected and reworked what it made until it was what you wanted, the work is AI Assisted, and directing through prompts counts. It's the most common badge, because most work made today sits somewhere in the middle. It's one of three free AI disclosure badges from AI Honesty Badge, alongside No AI and AI Generated. You add it with a short HTML or Markdown snippet that links back to aihonestybadge.com. Nothing is verified. It works because being honest about AI use builds trust with the people who see the work.
When to use the AI Assisted badge
- You decided what to make and directed the work, and AI helped with ideas, drafts, images or code.
- You shaped the result, rejecting, redirecting and reworking it until it was what you wanted.
- AI wrote the first draft or most of the code, and you still led. That counts.
Not quite right? If you gave AI a brief and published roughly what came back, with light fixes at most, the AI Generated badge is the more honest choice.

Tricky cases
- “I used AI to translate my writing”
- AI Assisted. The ideas and the original words are yours, and AI changed the language.
- “AI made the header image, but I wrote every word”
- AI Assisted for the post as a whole. If the distinction matters to your readers, say which part AI made.
- “A grammar tool rewrote some of my sentences”
- Fixing spelling and grammar is still No AI. Rewriting sentences for you makes it AI Assisted.
- “An AI coding assistant wrote my project”
- AI Assisted if you decided what to build, directed it and reviewed the result, even if AI wrote all the code. AI Generated if you described what you wanted and shipped what it built.
- “I heavily edited an AI-generated image”
- AI Assisted. You shaped it. If you'd published the first result as it came, that would be AI Generated.
- “I only used prompts and never edited it by hand”
- Prompts count. If you rejected versions, redirected and decided what stayed, you led the work, so it's AI Assisted. One prompt and publish is AI Generated.
- “AI wrote the first draft and I reworked it”
- AI Assisted, if the ideas are yours and you shaped it until it says what you mean.
