A simple way to be honest about AI
AI Honesty Badge is a free set of AI disclosure badges. Add one to a website, blog post or project README to show whether the work was made with no AI, with AI assistance, or mostly by AI.
Why it exists
AI is now part of how a lot of writing, design and code gets made. That isn't the problem. Not knowing is. Readers, clients and collaborators increasingly want to know how something was made, and there wasn't a simple, shared way to tell them.
The badges work like an honesty box. Nobody checks and nothing is enforced. They work because people value being told the truth, and notice when they aren't.
How it works
Made by people. No generative AI in the words, images or code.
A person led the work, and AI helped along the way.
AI made most of it, with a person directing and reviewing.
Pick the badge that honestly describes your work, copy the HTML or Markdown snippet, and paste it where you want the badge to appear. The image is served from this site, so there's nothing to install. Free for any use, including commercial. Hotlinking is fine and no attribution is required.
Who's behind it
AI Honesty Badge is made by Steven Hylands, a founder and designer in Belfast. He's the co-founder and CPO of Stora, and writes about AI and how work is changing.
This site uses its own badge
AI helped with the content and development of this site, so it carries the AI Assisted badge in its footer. Using AI openly is the whole point.
